At first glance training cd's seem a bit expensive, at least that is why I have avoided buying them in the past. Instead I would buy a couple books at $50.00 a piece and never read half of them. Trying to read out of a book and do something on the computer at the same time is very slow going. By the time I get done I don't remember half of what I did to get there.

I have taken classes at the community college. A couple hundred dollars for the 16 week class and about $50.00 for a book. This is very time consuming and 16 weeks is a long time. There are many places that offer quick classes 1 or 2 days at an average cost of $1500.00. I haven't tried one of these. I just don't see how they can cram $1500.00 worth of information into 16 hours. My memory retention just isn't that good.

So finally I have tried the CD's. This is like having a teacher you can turn on any time you want. They are written in a way that you can learn just by watching them and apply this knowledge to your own projects. You do not need to follow along step by step and create a bunch of useless files. The samples are all on the cd's if you do happen to prefer to follow along in a step by step fashion. If you want to learn a program quickly this is definitely the way to go.

I hate software upgrades. It seems like just when I get really fast at a program they put out an upgrade and it slows me down learning the new features or searching for things that have been moved. It takes me several months to get comfortable with the program again. This is another area where training CD's can be a great help. They will get you up to speed quickly!
