Create a Logo in
Illustrator 8.0 This tutorial will show you how to create type on the
top and bottom of the same circle and how to slice the circle. |

Start Illustrator and turn on your
grid and rulers. You will find these options under your VIEW
menu. Turn on snap to grid.
Click on the ellipse tool in the
floating tool palette. Hold your alt key and click on the grid. When you
release you mouse the ellipse options palette will appear. Set the size of your
circle to 4". |

To change the color of an object
you must first select the object. Click the fill color box at the bottom of the
floating tools palette to bring it to the front and make it active. Then click
a color in the color palette box. Your selected object will fill with your
chosen color.
Set the fill color of the circle to
black and the stroke to none.
To set your stoke to none you need
to click on the stroke icon and bring it to the front. Then click on the small
red slash right below it. |

Click the new layer icon to create
a new layer.
Alt click in the center of the
black circle and enter 3.8 in the dialog box. Set a fill color other than black
and a stroke color of white. |

Open the stroke palette and set
your stroke weight to 2.  |

Lock the layer with the black
circle on it. Make sure the layer with the colored circle is active and use the
pen tool to draw a line across it where you want the cut to be.

Make sure your line is selected and
choose Object - Path - Slice. The circle will be split along the
line. |

Click on the screen away from the
circle to deselect it. Click on the lower half of the circle and change the
fill color. |

Create a new layer and alt click in
the center of the circle. Set the circle to 3.8 again. Turn off the fill and
Turn on the stroke.
Select the text on path tool and
click on top of the circle. Type your text and hit Control - ALT - C to center
it. |

Click type show character to view
the type palatte. You need to adust the text to bring it down inside the
circle. See image at left Choose a font and type size here
also.
Hold down your alt key and drag the
Text I-beam down with your mouse. This will duplicate your text on the lower
half of the circle. You will again have to adjust the number in the character
palatte to get proper placement on your circle, then highlight the text and
type over it. |

Select the regular text tool, it
looks like a T and type the remaining text in the circle.
