Houston Rescued Dogs

Houston Agility & Dog Training Classes

Agility training is fun for you and your dog and doesn't have to be done for competition. Classes are available for people and dogs that just want to have fun. Some of the beginning agility classes do not even require previous obedience training since all work will be done on leash.

Some people don't realize that dogs actually get bored. Believe me they do, and when they do they can become very destructive. You need to find things to do with your buddy.

You can purchase agility equipment online or save some money and build much of it yourself. Jumps & hurdles are easy to construct from low cost pvc pipe available at your local hardware store. Practice tire jumps are made from corrugated drainage pipe and hung on a pvc frame.

Check out the Springer Bicycle Jogger if you are interested in biking with your dog. I used to run my dogs on my bike with just a leash. Since I am not a runner, this was a great way for them to get a chance to run and it didn't take that much exertion on my part. The Springer's low mounted coil spring absorbs and reduces the dog's tugs and pulls, so you'll be able to maintain your balance.

There are now many dog packs available so you can also let your dog carry your water, a collapsible bowl and even your camera equipment when you go on hikes or rides. Most dogs should be able to carry about 1/3 their weight. If you plan to do some serious hiking or running you may want to consider some Muttluks Dog Booties to protect your dogs paws.
