Get your dog a variety of toys
to start with. Kongs and booda bones are good for both inside and outside play.
The teaser ball is hard plastic and could cause some damage if your dog tosses
it around in the house. Best to use this one outside or inside with
supervision. Most dogs love plush squeaky toys, but you probably won't want to
leave these outside. A few bones of course will keep them entertained for
hours. I don't like rawhide because my dogs used to get to the last big piece
and try to swallow it whole, then choke it back up. Then new cornstarch bones
are safer. It's best not to leave your dog alone with any bone until you know
their chewing habits.
Munch is here spending
Christmas week with me while I am off work. She still has to return to the
rescue for her final shot. I have decided Munch is really not a hyper dog, she
is just nervous about being in a strange place. She has calmed down quite a
bit, but is used to having someone with her all the time. Having to live in a
crate for 6 weeks and only allowed to go out on a leash. She doesn't want to go
to the backyard without an escort. Strange noises frighten her. We may have
some problems with separation anxiety when I go back to work. If I close the
door while she is outside she paces back and forth waiting for me to open the
door. That is one nice thing about Malamutes, they seldom bark. She does raise
quite a fuss when I leave the house however.
Below you will find a
selection of toys that Munch has. A friend of mine sent her a plastic squeaky
toy and I have to say that did not last long at all. Munch chewed a hole in it
right away, but she does not tear her plush toys. Socks and vacuum cleaner
attachments are also a favorite of hers, but these she will destroy in no time
flat. The teaser ball, booda bone and kong toy are pretty much
indestructible. |
